Once a chef, always a chef. From the trust of his merchants to the inclusion of all Worldpayers, what ingredients does it take for Jay Buchheim to keep making each day the best he can?

Tell us about your role at Worldpay.

I’m a Senior Relationship Manager (RM) based in our Cincinnati Hub. My role is to work with established and new clients to manage their payment accounts – this ranges from negotiating new agreements, solving issues around payment processing, to providing clients with insights and guidance on new solutions that can protect their brand and improve their bottom line.
As RM’s, we work hard to keep our merchant partners engaged, educated, and supported, creating a collaborative relationship that allows us to know our clients better and fully understand their needs.

Sounds exciting! Have you always worked in the Payments industry?

Believe it or not, I started my career as a chef and even had my own small business for 13 years. After a time, I felt stagnant in the food industry, never thinking I could do anything else… and then “bam” came Worldpay!

Are there any standout moments that you’re most proud of during your time as a Worldpayer?

I’ve been a Worldpayer for 16 years, so there’s a lot! If I had to choose one moment, it’d be the day that a colleague and member of the PRIDE Network (LGBTQ+ Inclusion Network) came up to me and thanked me for starting the group. They said that after joining the inclusion network, they felt they could be their true self at work.

At Worldpay, it’s not just about working together to deliver innovative solutions to drive the future of payments, it’s also about colleagues all over the world coming together as one global community and feeling like they belong. That moment really captured that feeling for me, and it’s something that I’ll always hold onto.

That’s a great segue. Can you tell us more about the Worldpay Inclusion Networks?

Of course! We have nine Inclusion Networks at Worldpay – their purpose is to empower colleagues, create global communities and embed a sense of belonging for every Worldpayer. While the Networks are company sponsored, they’re colleague led. I’m a member of multiple networks and the founder of the PRIDE LGBTQ+ Network - I continue to lead it as the North America Chair.

One final question – outside of your role as an RM, what’s your favorite thing to do after work?

I cook! “Once a chef, always a chef” according to my street conversation with Guy Fieri at the Paris Olympics this past summer. As a former chef, dinner, desserts, and breakfast are always my responsibility at home!
