From our brilliant people and friendly hubs to leadership development opportunities, Alex Donnellan shares why Worldpay is a great place to work.

Hi Alex. Tell us about a typical day at Worldpay…

It’s jam packed! I get up at 6.30am, grab a coffee and take my dog for a walk (yes – even when it’s raining). Then I’ll head to our Manchester office, which is full of incredible Worldpayers and has an amazing vibe.

I usually have lots of meetings with stakeholders. I’ll also spend time catching up with my team, identifying fraud trends and problem-solving.

After work, if I’m not volunteering with UK Boston Terrier Rescue to help people adopt rescue dogs, I’ll enjoy a glass of wine and a cuddle with my dog.

What do you love about your role?

I’m responsible for Worldpay’s fraud monitoring function for customers outside of North America. We’re an innovative team, always thinking like a customer to enhance their experience from onboarding to live fraud protection. Worldpay has given me the opportunity to become a team manager, and I really love leading passionate people who embrace change. We’re constantly evolving to make sure we’re ahead of emerging fraud trends, and every day is different, which makes the role very exciting.

What made you choose Worldpay?

It was the prestige of working for a global leader in payments that made me apply, but it’s the people who have made me stay.

What’s one piece of advice you’d share with a potential Worldpayer?

Know your weaknesses as well as your strengths. You can’t grow personally or professionally without acknowledging them. And ask for feedback. While podcasts and books can give you tips to excel, you can’t beat honest feedback from the people around you.

How have you owned your development?

I joined Worldpay as an analyst in 2017, since then I’ve really pushed my progression by asking for more responsibilities and absorbing the experiences of the people around me. I’ve built up a strong network of people and looked for opportunities to drive success.

I really appreciate working for a company that rewards hard work, which is how I’ve been able to become the ROW Fraud Manager for Transaction Monitoring.

And if you didn’t work at Worldpay…

My plan B would be property development. I really enjoy interior design, and I’d love to renovate an old farmhouse eventually.
