What you’ll own
The Leader of Enterprise & Merchant Engineering will lead large-scale engineering organizations across India and partner closely with global technology teams.
This role combines strategic leadership and execution ownership, translating global technology strategy into scalable delivery outcomes, while driving engineering excellence, talent development, and operational efficiency. You will lead distributed teams in a fast-paced environment, operating as a strategic extension of the global technology organization.
Engineering & Delivery Leadership
- Lead end-to-end delivery for enterprise and merchant engineering teams, ensuring predictable, high-quality, and secure outcomes
- Translate global technology strategy into actionable execution plans, roadmaps, and capacity models for India delivery centres
- Drive engineering excellence, including SDLC best practices, CI/CD, automation, observability, and release management
- Ensure delivery of scalable, reliable, and high-performance products with strong user experience
Technical Strategy & Innovation
- Provide technical leadership and define high-level architecture and engineering strategies
- Lead modernization initiatives including cloud adoption and transformation from monolith to cloud-native architectures
- Foster innovation through strong engineering practices such as test-driven development and continuous improvement
- Ensure compliance with security, regulatory, and data protection standards
- Identify and mitigate operational, workforce, and geopolitical risks
- Maintain strong governance, engineering standards, and operational controls
People & Organization Leadership
- Lead and scale large, multi-layered engineering organizations across locations
- Build and execute talent strategies including hiring, retention, leadership development, and succession planning
- Coach and mentor leaders and engineers to drive professional growth and high-performance culture
- Create an engaging, inclusive, and high-retention work environment
- Partner with global technology, product, platform, and shared services teams to deliver outcomes
- Collaborate with Finance (FP&A) to optimize budgets, vendor spend, and cost efficiency
- Drive data-driven decision-making using metrics and performance insights
- Strengthen cross-team collaboration and knowledge sharing across global teams
What you’ll bring
Experience & Domain Expertise
- 18+ years of experience in software engineering, with significant experience in product-based organizations and payments/e-commerce domains
- Proven experience leading large-scale engineering organizations (~300+), including global or offshore teams
- Experience supporting enterprise delivery, digital transformation, or global sourcing initiatives
Technical Expertise
- Strong background in software engineering (preferably Java and full-stack systems)
- Deep understanding of scalable system design, reliability, and maintainability
- Experience with cloud-native architecture, DevOps practices, and modern engineering toolchains
- Strong knowledge of SDLC, Agile, and Lean delivery methodologies
Leadership & Business Skills
- Proven ability to lead through influence in complex, matrixed environments
- Strong stakeholder management, conflict resolution, and executive communication skills
- Data-driven mindset with focus on continuous improvement and operational excellence
- Entrepreneurial, self-driven, and outcome-oriented mindset
