Job Description
Are you ready to write your next chapter?
Make your mark at one of the biggest names in payments. We’re looking for a Java Software Engineer II to join our ever-evolving NAP engineering team and help us unleash the potential of every business.
What you’ll own as the Java Software Engineer II
This role is well-suited for someone with professional development experience who enjoys structured, detail-oriented work and prefers a steady and predictable environment over fast-paced, constantly evolving projects. You will focus on maintaining and enhancing key components of our cost and rating engines, particularly around fees and interchange costs. The work involves Java-based coding with consistent, repeatable patterns, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and reliability in transaction processing.
If you enjoy analytical work, have patience for structured coding, and perhaps bring a background in QA with an interest in transitioning into a more development-focused role, this position could be a great fit.
A Software Engineer is accountable for:
Development and maintenance of Java-based components in the cost and rating engines, in accordance with the requirements provided.
Updates and enhancements to transaction cost and fee calculation logic, based on business and system requirements.
Adjustments to data mappings, flows, and enrichment rules to ensure correct cost determination.
Supporting fee evaluation processes to deliver accurate, consistent outputs.
Collaboration with analysts and testers to confirm quality and compliance.
Using GitHub and Jenkins as part of your day-to-day development workflow.
Clear documentation of updates for long-term maintainability.
What you'll bring
Over 4 years of experience in Java development with a steady, consistent coding style.
Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail.
Comfort working with GitHub (branches, merges, pull requests) and Jenkins (build pipelines).
Familiarity with databases (Postgres preferred, or other relational databases is a plus).
Some familiarity with agile frameworks and methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe).
Some background in QA is a plus, especially for candidates looking to transition into a development role focused on writing and configuring code.
Strong communication skills – able to collaborate with analysts, testers, and teammates clearly and effectively.
An appreciation for accuracy, predictability, and consistency in software development.
Ability to work independently on well-defined tasks, while being a reliable team contributor.
Why you'll love this role
Work on structured, predictable coding tasks where accuracy matters most.
Apply your experience in a steady, long-term project environment without the churn of shifting priorities.
Know that your work directly improves transaction accuracy and compliance.
Join a collaborative team that values experience, reliability, and thoroughness.
Thrive in a role designed for engineers who prefer a stable, consistent career path.
