Job Description

Job Description

Are you ready to write your next chapter?

Make your mark at one of the biggest names in payments. We’re looking for a Director, Partner and Merchant Experience, Payrix to join our Payrix Engineering team and help us unleash the potential of every business.

Payrix empowers vertical SaaS platforms with integrated payments infrastructure, enabling our partners to seamlessly embed commerce experiences and unlock new revenue. Our developer-friendly APIs, secure platform, and flexible architecture are designed to help ISVs grow while meeting the complex demands of the payments ecosystem.

What you’ll own as the Director, Partner and Merchant Experience, Payrix

We are seeking an experienced Director or Senior Director of Engineering to lead critical areas of our platform: Merchant and Partner Portals, Risk & Underwriting Services. This leader will shape the user experience, architecture, and technical execution of systems that directly impact how merchants onboard, manage risk, and access actionable insights.

Portal & UX Engineering
Lead development of intuitive, self-service merchant and partner portals that deliver insights, onboarding, reporting, and transactional visibility.

Risk & Underwriting Services
Oversee the engineering of real-time and batch systems supporting risk scoring, fraud detection, decisioning engines, and onboarding workflows. Partner with Product, Data Science, and Compliance teams to evolve the risk stack.

  • Define and drive the roadmap for engineering across Portals, Risk/Underwriting, and VAS in collaboration with Product and Design.

  • Hire, coach, and grow high-performing engineering teams across multiple disciplines (frontend, backend, full stack, and platform).

  • Ensure architectural soundness, security, scalability, and reliability of customer-facing and decision-critical systems.

  • Embed engineering best practices—CI/CD, quality automation, observability, incident response, and root cause rigor.

  • Foster a strong DevOps and Agile culture that balances rapid iteration with risk mitigation and stability.

  • Align platform and UI strategy with internal compliance, security, and regulatory needs (e.g., PCI, SOC 2).

  • Champion a platform-first mindset, enabling reuse, scalability, and white-label experiences across tenants and partners.

  • Serve as a thought partner to Risk, Compliance, and GTM leadership on how technology can accelerate safe growth and operational efficiency.

What you’ll bring

You’ll bring deep expertise in payments and financial platforms, and a strong background in leading agile engineering organizations that ship high-impact product experiences at scale.

  • 10+ years of engineering experience, with 5+ years leading teams in high-growth fintech or payments organizations.

  • Demonstrated success building and scaling customer-facing portals, workflow engines, or dashboards for SaaS or platform businesses.

  • Deep domain knowledge of payments, including experience with merchant onboarding, KYC/KYB, risk scoring, fraud detection, and underwriting workflows.

  • Strong technical foundation across distributed systems, service-oriented architecture, modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React), and event-driven design.

  • Experience leading agile teams with fast release cycles and strong product-engineering collaboration.

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills; able to translate between technical, product, and business domains.

  • Strong understanding of compliance, data security, and operational risk in financial systems.

It’s a bonus if you have

  • Experience with embedded payments, ISV models, or multi-tenant SaaS platforms

  • Familiarity with machine learning or rules-based decisioning systems for risk and underwriting

  • Background working with APIs, developer platforms, or third-party integrations (e.g., Experian, Alloy, Sift)
